Product photography tips
Getting the perfect shot can seem impossible…
So here’s a few of our top tips for shooting your own product photography!
Great photography really can transform your business. If you are just starting out and don’t want to splash the cash on a professional photographer just yet, we are here to help with our experience on DIY photoshoots.
Starting with…
Mood Boards
Pinterest is always the best place for inspo, especially for a photoshoot. Start adding inspo to a board to get an idea of the direction you want to go in.
Colour Palette
Either using your brand colours or some seasonal colours, start creating a theme for the shoot. You can use these colours for the backdrop or pops of colour in the props you are using.
Lighting
If you are on a budget, the best way to get the prefect lighting is to shoot outside. If you are after a more controlled light setting, we recommend buying a small set of photography lights or a light box if you are shooting really small products.
Backdrops
Coloured paper can always be a quick and easy way to create a fun background. To take your photoshoot to the next level, we recommend buying some thin sheets of mdf and painting these the colours you want to use as your backdrop.
**Top Tip for painting mdf boards, is to use a foam roller for a smooth finish in your photos.
Props
Make use of props from your living room, anything from vase’s to plants can make your photos more exciting. Using plants can always add fun shadows to your photos. If you are buying props but can’t find the perfect colours, we recommend using spray paint so it fits into the aestetics of your photoshoot.
Camera or Phone?
We vote phone! Now a days our phone cameras are such high quality & easy to us. You can also take short videos during the photoshoot to create a BTS reel for social media.
